The Otley Town Centre Races remain the most prestigious criterium race in the British racing calendar, with past winners including Mark Cavendish, Jeremy Hunt, Adam Blythe, Jonny Clay and Chris Walker. In 2010 my good friend Brent Carr invited me to go along with him to watch it. Both of us took our cameras but initially were very casual about using them.

Criteriums are mass start races with all the riders starting at the same time and on the same lap. As riders lose contact with the main field of competitors (or are “dropped”), they are pulled from the course so as to not interrupt the main fields’ forward motion.
